Perhaps the best home mixer for replicating hand-kneading, this Swedish machine has gone by many names over the years. Until recently produced by Electrolux, it has been known as:
- Electrolux Assistent
- DLX 2000
- Magic Mill DLX
- Electrolux DLX
- Ballerup Magic Mixer
- AEG Assistent
- Verona
- Ankarsrum Original Assistent
I believe the current name is the Ankarsrum Original Assistent. Ankarsrum is the town in which it’s always been made.
Especially good for higher hydration doughs, this mixer features an open-bowl design and a roller-scraper combo that effectively mimics hand kneading. But don’t lead bread dough be the only thing that you use your Assistent for. It’s perfectly at home for cakes and cookies as well as beating the occasional batch of fudge.

AEG Assistent appears to be a regular stand mixer, not an Ankarsrum type.
Where does the 1500W figure come from. The manufacturer might be surprised by this.
